LARRY CLYDE HAZEN, age 73 years of Hessel, formerly of Manchester and Onsted, passed away Friday, February 26, 2010 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Larry was born on January 8, 1937 in Sault Ste Marie, the son of L. Clyde and Olive (Cameron) Hazen. He graduated from Manchester High School in 1955. Larry married Sally Jo Humphrey on July 12, 1980 in Santa Rosa, Texas. She survives. Larry worked for Ford Motor Company as a millwright for 41 years, retiring in 1999. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Larry was a member of the American Legion, Durkee-Seager Post #550 of Onsted and the Manchester Jaycees. He enjoyed woodworking, motorcycling, traveling and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Surviving besides his wife, Sally Jo of Hessel are six children, son, Chris (Dale Susan) Hazen of Phoenix, Arizona, daughters, Cheryl (Mike) Slusher of Tipton, Candas (Scott) Nighswander of Onsted, Casandra (Steve) Gooding of Onsted, Heather (Jerry) Ruttkofsky of Onsted, and Holly Jo (Joseph) Malak of Onsted, 10 grandchildren, Angel Bingham, Hannah Nighswander, Sara Slusher, Wyatt Gooding, Sierra Gooding, Michael Slusher, Jarret Nighswander, Kaylee Malak, Ashlyn Malak and Jayden Ruttkofsky, four great grandchildren, one sister, Judith (Karl) Cole of Santa Rosa, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Susi Dea Olesinski, and sister, Patricia Jane Kurtz.
Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Dunn Chapel, Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Onsted with Rev. Mike Lane officiating. Full Military Honors will follow at the funeral home under the direction of American Legion, Durkee-Seager Post #550 of Onsted. Celebration of Larrys Life will continue with a luncheon at the American Legion in Onsted. Visitation will be from 1-2 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Oncology Department at Mackinac Straights Area Hospital.
